Time to RGB →
Time to RGB takes your current local time, converts it to RGB, and changes the background color to the current time.
Whoa.

Also, who else LOVES the Pantone color of the year?

A: They are in the top ten baby names for White girls born in NYC in 2009.
Gotta love the Hasids for confusing statisticians.

Rolfing, a Painful Form of Massage, Regains... →
That’s my friend, Rey!! I hope this doesn’t drum up too much business… I still need to schedule my rolfing sessions that my sisters gave me for my birthday, circa 2009? 2008?

– Keeping Kids Safe From the Wrong Dangers - NYTimes.com
I love how this article is a huge blow to all the parents out there keeping their kids on a leash (sometimes literally).
If I ran the zoo
I curled up on the couch with a mug of tea the other morning, and saw this:
And then today, I read this: Opossums are the new raccoons about the city’s strategy to get rid of rats.
Also check out what happened a few months ago to address the geese issue in Prospect Park.
Props to FIPS for finding the best graphic ever:

Fire Escape Gardening
Just came across the Urban Organic Gardener’s website. Has some low-cost ideas to make real food come from outside your window. Currently dreaming of cherry tomatoes.
This bill will make it illegal to rent out any residential space for less than 30 days.
Would a vacation be made financially possible if your furnished, comfy home earned some [taxable] income while you’re away?
Have friends/family coming in but can’t house them all at your place? Oh, and a $200+ per night hotel is too expensive?

"Execution in Progress"
‘Chinglish’ (or the related ‘Engrish’) was often the topic of good natured jokes when I worked with a number of Asians. Thanks to the NYT for an article and entertaining slideshow on the topic.
Related: this product in my fridge right now, and I laughed out loud the first time I made Miso Soup.

In my noble attempt to keep this blog more than just a collection of links (not that there’s anything wrong with that), I hesitate to post a clip from last night’s Daily Show.
But really, this is hilarious. I can even claim a personal connection because I used to work at a certain “futuristic Swedish hospital” and would frequently see Mr. Stewart squatting at the...
Strict Abortion Measures Enacted in Oklahoma -... →
It’s sort of amazing to me that Oklahoma and New York share a federal government.
These new laws: (1) mandate women have a ultrasound with detailed explanation before they can choose to have an abortion, and (2) protect doctors who choose to withhold information about birth defects from expectant parents.
I’m sure any therapist would agree that the best way to work through sexual...
VisualRadio - Israeli radio for the iPhone →
While driving with the windows down on this gorgeous day, I had a craving for Israeli radio. Specifically Galei Tzahal and/or cheezy folk songs (i.e. Yaffa Yarkoni and Ofra Haza) to celebrate the national holiday. Within 5 red lights, I had searched, found a helpful review of, and downloaded an iPhone app to stream a bunch of popular Israeli radio stations live. By the BQE, I was...
Initiation
I’ve flirted with the idea of blogging for the past few years, but was never inspired. I thought it would leave me feeling exposed, or worse, committed to following through with promises (mostly to myself). Deleting posts whose goals I failed to satisfy would be the ultimate defeat. And so I put it off.
Maybe now it’s more socially acceptable to broadcast to the world what...
