I’ve flirted with the idea of blogging for the past few years, but was never inspired. I thought it would leave me feeling exposed, or worse, committed to following through with promises (mostly to myself). Deleting posts whose goals I failed to satisfy would be the ultimate defeat. And so I put it off.
Maybe now it’s more socially acceptable to broadcast to the world what you’re doing, eating, thinking, and wearing than it was in 2005. Perhaps there’s so much personal info out on the web already, that a few more tidbits like a favorite restaurant or the fact that I’m sitting Field level at my next Mets* game doesn’t feel like I’m increasing my stalk-ability risk.
[* I’m a Yankees fan, for the record. I’ll be attending the game with Phillies’ fans.]
I think the problem all along was the barrier to entry. To choose a domain name (creative, I know), to have a witty blog title (which is subject to change, don’t get too comfortable), to fill in the About page with a meaningful, impressive, yet brief snapshot of my life. Being detail-oriented (-obsessed?) has its downside.
And so I set out to create an interesting, informative, and/or inspiring scrapbook of my life. I hope to avoid bring preachy, whiney, or un-constructively critical. Finally, and this is the hardest part, I will try to avoid posting gratuitously adorable pictures of my dog.
As a stocky Italian plumber once said, “here we go!”
